Not everyone can afford to buy the laptop they would like to have (students and employees of small businesses come to mind), but this does not mean that you should settle for a substandard device. All first-class manufacturers have "affordable" ranges, there is any number of budget brands, many of which offer devices of excellent value.
Our option, Acer AMD-powered Swift 3, is from a top-notch vendor and gets approval thanks to the excellent combination of sub-price 1,000 price and solid performance without making too many trade-offs on features, build quality, or support options. (Note: Chromebooks, another rich collection of budget laptops, are covered elsewhere in this article.)
The key to Swift 3's value proposition is the Rezen 4000 series AMD mobile processor, which provides excellent price/performance compared to equivalent Intel chips. Not only the CPU, 8 GB or 16 GB of RAM, and up to 1 TB of storage are well up to zero, but the wireless connection-Bluetooth 5.0 and 802.11 axes (Wi-Fi 6) Wi-Fi-is a blast so far, which is impressive in this price range. The 14-inch FDD screen is quite enough, although some may find that the matte finish and moderate brightness make it somewhat dull.
The build quality of Swift 3 is good, there is a good set of ports, the keyboard is backlit, and you can expect to get a full day (not very demanding) work done on battery power (Acer claims 11 hours). It's not too heavy either, at 1.2 kg.
The pros:
- Great for students and casual use
- Less than $ 1000
- Tons of storage space
- Lots of ports
Cons::
- No 4K or touch screen options
- A rather gloomy screen
