Angelo Moriondo: All you need to know about the 'godfather' of espresso machine

New Delhi: Many people prefer to start their day with a cup of coffee. It is one of the best drinks to start your morning. This is mainly because the aromatic magical stuff is known to have many health benefits. Among coffee lovers, Angelo Moriondo is the most popular name today. This is because Google celebrates the 171st birthday of Angelo Moriondo, the man who patented the first known espresso machine, with a doodle. Being the godfather of the espresso machine, Moriondo presented it at the Turin public exhibition in 1884 and received a bronze medal.

Angelo Moriondo life

Moriondo was born on June 6, 1851, in Turin, Kingdom of Sardinia in a family of businessmen. His grandfather founded a liquor production company. He was transferred to Moriondo's father, who later built a famous chocolate company. His family brewed new ideas or projects and Moriondo followed in their footsteps. He bought two establishments-the grand Ligure hotel and the American Bar. This is when he realized that despite being extremely popular in Italy, the long waiting time for coffee was pushing customers away. He believed that making multiple cups of coffee at once would allow him to serve more customers at a faster pace. Realizing that it would give him an advantage over his competitors, he hired a mechanic. Moriondo directly supervised his invention.

He received a patent entitled "new Steam Machines for economical and instant dessert of coffee drinks, method" A. Moriondo"."The patent was granted for six years. However, he continued to improve the machine and continued to obtain patents for it in the following years. It is important to mention that Moriondo never took the invention to an industrial scale and is limited to the development of two hand-made machines. He got those machines installed in his foundations and was convinced that it proved to be a great success.
