Knowledge workers spend a lot of time staring at the screen and pounding the keyboard, often running a combination of productivity and collaboration apps. In addition to a decent monitor and keyboard, knowledge workers need powerful all-around performance, a backup connection to an external monitor, if necessary, and a good webcam/microphone/speaker to handle video calls (this will be especially important if the user also works remotely). Many devices can perform these duties, but Dell XPS 13 is currently leading the field, in our opinion.
Powered by 11th generation Intel Core i3, 15, or i7 processors with Intel integrated graphics (or HD or iris XE), the 13.4-inch XPS 13 is compact and lightweight, yet durable. The Infiniti edge small frame display is available in HD (no touch/touch) or 4K+/Ultra HD (touch) with an aspect ratio of 16:10, while the keyboard is quiet, responsive, and convenient for fast typing. All-day battery life should be achievable from a 52Wh battery, depending on the workload mix and screen resolution/brightness setting. It's not cheap, especially if you add abundant options (such as a Thunderbolt dock), but it will serve you very well.
Dell offers a variant of the XPS-13 with an OLED touch screen with a resolution of "3.5 kilo" (3456 * 2160 pixels, 304 pixels), 100% DCI-P3 color gamut coverage, 500 HDR display and Dolby Vision certification, and 400 nits maximum brightness.
The pros:
- Lightweight and durable
- OLED, 4K, and touch display options
- Great battery life
Cons:
- Expensive
- There is no separate GPU in basic mode
